We have an exciting opportunity available an Engineering Manager in Kansas City.

ENGINEERING MANAGER

The Engineering Manager oversees, directs, plans and schedules projects with various Engineering personnel, including: Senior Engineers, System Engineers, Senior Technicians and Technicians. This role is responsible for working with various teams in the development of schedules and deadlines, determining project and labor requirements, delegation of tasks, and proposing and enforcing alternative work methods to perform tasks better. This position will interface and communicate with other departments and external customers.

Reports to: Chief Engineer
Supervises: Engineering Technician I & II , Senior Technician, Systems Engineer, Senior Systems Engineer, Lead Project Engineer

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. *Manages various Engineering department functions; manages employees in those
departments including recruitment of qualified personnel, performance management, scheduling, time charges, corrective action, etc.
B. *Assigns tasks to maximize capacity utilization and to ensure projects stay on track.
C. *Coordinates communication internally within departments (project managers, field representatives, purchasers, estimators, schedulers and planners, etc.).
D. *Monitors deadlines and progress of assignments.
E. *Plans and participates in meetings both with internal and external customers.
F. *Provides support to employees to perform their assigned tasks.
G. *Assists employees in the development of their individual goals and monitors their performance towards the accomplishments of those goals; ensures individual’s goals are aligned with the business strategy of Safetran.
H. Plans, attends weekly and monthly project meetings and prepares updates from project meetings.
I. Initiates, promotes, implements, and monitors Continuous Improvement Processes throughout the organization.
J. Understands and practices the Corporate Environmental Health and Safety standards and helps to ensure full compliance.
K. Prepares reports as required.
L. Plans and budgets for the fiscal year.
M. Trains personnel.
N. Provides labor estimates, checks and oversees engineering estimating process.
O. Establishes individual and team goals which are aligned with the Company’s business strategies and objectives.
P. Functions as a contributing member of the department’s team and other teams, as assigned.
Q. Assists the department in the accomplishment of the team’s goals.
R. Attends Company and industry-related meetings, as required.
S. Performs other duties as assigned.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
A. Ability to maintain a high level of visual attention and mental concentration for significant periods of time.
B. Ability to solve complex problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where some standardization exists.
C. Ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
D. Ability to read, analyze and interpret industry information.
E. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
F. Ability to stand for brief periods of time.
G. Ability to lift 10 to 20 pounds on some occasions.
H. Ability to manipulate necessary office equipment, computers and peripherals.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS
A. This position requires working both the internal and external environment. Activities occur inside and outside and position will be subject to changes in temperature.
B. This position requires working nights, weekends or non-regular hours to meet deadlines.
C. This position will be exposed to physical hazards and equipment where special training and safety considerations are required.
D. This position has regular exposure to noise, moving equipment, and various environmental conditions such as dust and slippery surfaces.
E. This position requires travel 1-2 times per month.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
A. Four year degree in engineering or equivalent.
B. Ten or more years of industry engineering experience.
C. Three or more years of supervisory experience.

TECHNICAL ABILITIES
A. Understanding of electrical engineering principles and terms
B. Electro-mechanical skills
C. Mathematical skills
D. Skill sets relative to specific areas of management, i.e., design components, railroad signal standards, etc.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
A. Computer, peripherals and the Microsoft Office software.
